The Guardian
Arctic sea ice evaporated
our reflective shield gone
oceans rising
global flooding forecast
bye-bye real-estate
Our weather changed forever
our seasons treasoned
our very existence held hostage
to our own wanton behaviour
We cannot leave it to governments alone
we must rage with primordial ferocity
focus with laser accuracy
cease the waste of war
and direct all our resources
to combat global warming
Relinquish carbon trading
the capitalist cloak of shifting responsibility
and adopt real measures of sustainability
We must individually and collectively
become the guardians of our planet
not just custodians
but active guardians
with total commitment
Otherwise
in a very short time
we will no longer look to the stars
we will no longer see the oceans
we will no longer share the earth
with our fellow animal and plant species
We will cease to be
no longer will clouds grace the sky
or rivers flow by mountains
no longer will we feel the caress of love
the gentle touch of rain on our faces
or see the sweet innocence in a baby's eyes
I call upon our heritage
our noblest natures
our collective will to survive as a species
on all nations and individuals
to become THE GUARDIAN
